Our Purpose
We will be working together to
Create, Relate, & Evaluate
music. We will be making music in many ways throughout the year. First grade will be putting on a Sonoran Desert Musical this year called "In the Shade of the Saguaro". Third grade will be playing recorders, and the fifth and sixth grade students will be learning to play guitar. All the grades will be creating music on various classroom percussion and pitched instruments and will be learning to write out the music they play.

We will be relating music to our lives throughout the year. We will discuss the purpose of songs, why a song might be written, what event would be appropriate for certian musical selections, or even what animal or event might have inspired a given peice of music. We will talk about music that connects to us, our families, and our country. Lastly we will be evaluating music to judge whether music is played well, if it istechnically or artistically noteworthy. We will look at if it is important in any way to our lives or to others. We will work toward describing why we do or do not like a piece of music.
